Neal & Vicky Hatcher

A native of Portsmouth, Neal began his real estate career in 1965 as a salesman for his brother’s firm. In 1970, he opened Neal Hatcher Real Estate. Neal has been instrumental in the acquisition of various retail and restaurant sites for area businesses throughout the years. Along with his wife, Vicky, their positive efforts have contributed to many residential and commercial office locations in the Portsmouth area. They have been actively involved in commercial and residential development in the community since 1966 with the purchase of their first piece of investment property. From new build to restoration and rehab, their goal is providing quality facilities for residents and businesses alike.

Campus View

Campus View offers university housing for the students of Shawnee State University with nine units providing residence for 432 SSU students. The Hatchers have a unique partnership with SSU who manages the units while they maintain the facilities.

Offices

Two locations on Fourth Street formerly housed two super markets (Krogers and Albers). After their closure, the buildings were renovated and expanded into offices that currently house the Social Security Administration offices, H & R Block and the Armed Services Recruiters along with the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation (pictured below). A new office complex in the 800 block of 4th Street provides office space for Jeff Dever, CPA and two government agencies. This building adjoins a former stable, constructed in the late 1800’s and was restored by the Hatchers for retail space for Hope Works and office space for the Counseling Center.

Restoration and Preservation

Neal Hatcher Real Estate is located in a Victorian style house at 8th & Gay Street. Built in 1895 by the late L.D. Allard, 902 8th Street is one of the few Victorian Ladies remaining in Portsmouth and was brought back to life in 1998 by the Hatchers. The Beneficial Finance office, formerly the site of a service station and adjacent to the office, is another prime example of transforming an outdated structure into a modern office site.

They are the parents of Geoff Hatcher a real estate appraiser in Columbus, OH and Jennifer Hatcher who owns and operates Kidz Biz in Portsmouth and the proud Grandparents of Tanner Hatcher of Portsmouth and Mary and Gwen Hatcher of Columbus. Both of the Hatchers are actively involved in community organizations including the American Red Cross and the Boy Scouts of America. They are members of the Portsmouth Area Chamber of Commerce, BPOElks, the SSU President’s Club and Cornerstone United Methodist Church. They were the recipients of the 2007 Portsmouth Area Chamber Member of the Year and Neal is a member of the Rotary Club and was recognized with the 2007 Vern Riffe Leadership Award for an Outstanding Citizen by the BSA for his commitment to Scouting and the community.
