Vernal G. Riffe, Jr., was born in 1925, in New Boston, Ohio. He attended college briefly, but he did not graduate. A resident of southern Ohio for his entire life, Riffe embarked upon a political career to assist people living in Appalachia improve their lives. Riffe won election to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1958. He served in the House from 1959 until 1995, when term limits forced his departure.

He's also a proven winner.
Ealey's high school team went 30-0 in his three years on the varsity, and he helped lead it to the Class A state poll championship as a senior in 1967. Bo Schembechler, then the head coach at Miami (Ohio), offered Ealey a partial scholarship to be the team's third quarterback and a defensive back. Ohio also talked to him once, but that was it. |
